Q&As on the Notice of the People’s Bank of China on Arrangements for Implementing the One-Off Credit Repair Policy

To Read Chinese Version

1. What are the conditions set in the one-off credit repair policy for overdue credit information to be removed from display?

There are mainly four conditions. First, the one-off credit repair policy applies only to personal overdue credit information displayed in the Basic Financial Credit Information Database, i.e., the Credit Reporting System of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC). Second, the overdue records are generated between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2025. Third, a single overdue amount shall not exceed RMB10,000. Fourth, the overdue amounts are fully repaid no later than March 31, 2026. As long as these conditions are met, the overdue credit records will be removed from display.

2. Do people need to submit applications in order to be covered by the one-off credit repair policy?

The one-off credit repair policy will automatically apply, meaning that people do not need to submit any application or documentation. Eligible records will be automatically identified and processed by the PBOC’s Credit Reporting System.

An important message to the public is that there are no fees charged for the one-off credit repair, nor is there any need for a third-party agent. So any request for money or information in the name of this policy is fraudulent. People can report such behaviors to the PBOC, its branches, or the local police.

3. With the implementation of the one-off credit repair policy, what changes will take place to the display of the overdue credit records eligible for the repair?

Upon implementation of the one-off credit repair policy, the display of the eligible records will be adjusted under two items on a personal credit report, i.e., “repayment status” and “overdue amount”. Specifically, the “repayment status” will return to normal from the previous overdue status, while the “overdue amount” will be adjusted to zero from a “non-zero” amount below RMB10,000. At the same time, adjustments will be made correspondingly to the sections “information summary” and “credit transaction details” on the personal credit report.

4. When will people be able to see the changes in the display of their overdue credit information?

That depends on when their overdue debts are paid off. Eligible records will be processed and the changed records displayed according to two timetables. First, in case the overdue amounts are fully repaid on or before November 30, 2025, the relevant overdue credit information will no longer be displayed in the credit reporting system as of January 1, 2026. Second, in case the overdue amounts are fully repaid between December 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, the relevant overdue credit information will be removed from display in the Credit Reporting System before the end of the following month. For example, people whose overdue debts are fully repaid in January 2026 will see the display of the relevant credit records return to normal before the end of February 2026.

5. What should people do to confirm whether or not adjustments have been made to their overdue credit records?

As eligible records will be automatically identified and processed by the Credit Reporting System, people do not need to submit any application or ation. To see whether or not the overdue credit information has been removed from display, they can access their credit reports through multiple channels online or offline. Quick and convenient, online inquiries are recommended, which can be made via financial institutions’ mobile apps, internet banking, the UnionPay app, the online personal credit information service platform on the official website of the PBOC’s Credit Reference Center (https://www.pbccrc.org.cn), and some other channels. Credit reports are also accessible offline through self-service credit information inquiry machines, smart teller machines at financial institutions, and credit information service counters at PBOC branches. Detailed information about the inquiry channels can be obtained on the official website or WeChat account of the PBOC’s Credit Reference Center.

6. If people have questions about the application of the policy to their overdue credit information, what should they do to lodge inquiries?

If people have questions about the application of the policy to their overdue credit information, they can contact the lending institutions or the PBOC’s credit information service counters, or call the customer service hotline of the Credit Reference Center at 4008108866. Their questions will be dealt with.

More information about the one-off credit repair policy can be obtained through channels such as the official website of the PBOC’s Credit Reference Center (https://www.pbccrc.org.cn) and its official WeChat account.
